  • What should I bring to my first appointment?Open or Close

    Dress comfortably; bring your physician’s prescription for physical therapy and your driver’s license.

  • How long will my physical therapy appointment be?Open or Close

    Your first visit will consist of your evaluation followed by treatment. Each assessment is specific to your injury and limitations. The evaluation consists of a thorough history and assessment of strength, range of motion and functional ability. Together, we establish goals for your treatment and a plan of care to reduce your symptoms and restore your maximum level of function. I would suggest allowing at least one hour for your appointment.

  • What if I am in too much pain to exercise?Open or Close

    Each program is designed according to the client’s individual symptoms, impairments and goals. If the injury is acute, the main focus will be to reduce pain and inflammation. Each physical therapy treatment session can be modified according to your needs.

  • How do I know if I need a Functional Capacity Evaluation?Open or Close

    Functional Capacity Evaluations are used for a variety of reasons. One can use an FCE to develop a treatment program, to measure the physical abilities of patients before and after a rehabilitation program, to modify a rehabilitation treatment, to evaluate whether an injured worker can work, and to determine when he/she can return to work.

  • What is a FCE?Open or Close

    An Functional Capacity Evaluation (FCE) is a comprehensive battery of tests, measures, practices and observations that are combined to objectively determine the ability of the evaluated to function in a variety of circumstances. The FCE process compares the individual's health status, and body functions and structures to the demands of the job and the work environment.

  • What does an FCE assess?Open or Close

    Strength, Mobility, Flexibility, Endurance, Physical effort, , Coordination, Dexterity, Ability to lift & carry, Ability to perform specific job related tasks, Ability to engage in sustained activity.

  • What is the purpose of an FCE?Open or Close

    - To determine fitness to work following a prolonged medical leave.

    - To assess a patient's ability as compared to occupational demands to improve safety with job task performance and reduce the risk of re-injury.

    - Assist in the identification of changes to workload and/or ergonomic measures that the employer may implement in an effort to accommodate an employee with a disability or medical condition.

    - To determine eligibility for disability insurance, or pension eligibility in the event that an employee is permanently unable to return to work.

    - To determine the presence and degree of disability so that a judicial entity can assign or deny financial and medical disability benefits.
